I photograph a lot of my dentistry. There are many reasons to do so ranging from documentation to education. It's easier to show patients my own work than to describe it or hand them a generic pamphlet. I like "before" & "after" (and even "during") photos, and I think patients appreciate seeing a dentist's work first hand.

NOTE: Photos taken in my office are digitally part of the patient's chart, and are confidential. Only after signing a photo release consent form can I show others their likeness.

I use as many photos of my actual patients as I can in my web site. Putting together a web site can be a laborious thing, It's easy to picture stock photos of professional models. I have some on this site, in fact. But any representation of my dentistry ( a porcelain veneer, for example ) in this site is my own work - not stock footage of someone else's dentistry.

And here's a disclaimer: I do not digitally alter any photo (other than cropping and sizing). I think to do so is deceptive and unethical.

Clinical pictures are never as visually appealing or glamourous compared to a picture of an attractive model taken by a professional photographer, but so what ?! I think my patients (and potential patients) want to see the real thing !

But, hey, that's just me.
