m I a good candidate for dental implants?
If you are missing one tooth or a few teeth, dental implants may be the best solution for you. The best candidates are in good overall dental health and have adequate jawbone material to support the implant. In some cases a bone graft can be performed if there is not enough jaw bone present.
My missing tooth is in the back of my mouth. Do I really need to replace it?
Yes! A missing tooth will create other dental problems over time, even if it is in a low visibility area of your mouth. Your teeth can drift into the open space, causing your teeth to be out of alignment. The open space can be difficult to clean properly leading to tooth decay.
A missing tooth can also make it difficult to chew properly, causing you to adjust the way you bite down and leading to a serious condition called TMD.
Bone deterioration and gum disease can develop when a missing tooth is not replaced.
Even in the back of your mouth, your missing tooth is visible when your laugh or smile.
What are the alternatives to dental implants?
If you need to replace many or all of your teeth, you might want to consider removable dentures or partials. If you are seeking a replacement which stays in place, but are not a good candidate for dental implants, bridgework is another option.
How often will my dental implant need to be replaced?
Dental implants are permanent and should last a lifetime. The rod itself will not need to be replaced. If the false tooth, which is attached to the rod, is damaged due to trauma or an injury, it can easily be replaced when needed.
