That's why we offer sedation dentistry - a method of getting the necessary dental work done that allows you to relax safely!
We do not perform IV sedation.
Our most conservative relaxation option is laughing gas (nitrous oxide = N²0). It is gas that you breathe in that effectively numbs your treatment area but keeps you wide awake and euphoric! The nitrous oxide is colorless and nonirritating, and contains a mixture of 70% oxygen and 30% nitrous. It even has a pleasant sweet smell! Besides the lightheaded side effect, there aren't any major risks with this option. Once the gas is discontinued, the effect stops - so you can go about your day normally. The great thing about laughing gas is that Dr. Tekin has total control over your depth of sedation - based on your needs, he can deepen or lessen your level instantly!
Another option is to take an oral sedative. A prescription pill can be taken before your appointment; the dosage level will vary based on the estimated length of your treatment. During the treatment, you are deeply relaxed but responsive and able to ask questions or move based on the doctor's request. After the appointment, your sedation may take extra time to wear off, so please make sure there is someone to drive you home. You may have little or no memory of the appointment - which many of our anxious patients can appreciate!
